Teaching and implementing techniques in Emotional Regulation, Mental Wellness, and Emotional Balance in the Post-Covid era for students of all ages, with an emphasis on teaching neurodiverse students of all ages.

β€œThe global pandemic and other world concerns have had a profound impact on the mental well-being of students of all ages. As educators, it is imperative that we address the emotional challenges faced by our students, particularly those who are neurodiverse. This presentation aims to explore innovative teaching techniques that promote emotional regulation, mental wellness, and emotional balance in the post-Covid era, with a special emphasis on neurodiverse students. The session will emphasize the strengths and unique abilities of neurodiverse individuals in the context of music education. Examples of specific challenges faced by neurodiverse students include heightened anxiety, social isolation, depression, perfectionism, and disrupted routines due to the pandemic. A range of evidence-based teaching techniques tailored to foster emotional regulation and mental well-being will be included such as mindfulness exercises, redirecting negative thought patterns, and encouraging creativity. Practical examples will be provided to demonstrate the successful implementation of these techniques in real-world music lessons. Additionally, the presentation will highlight the importance of creating a safe and inclusive learning environment, where students feel supported and empowered. Strategies for individualized instruction, sensory accommodations, and effective communication with neurodiverse students will be discussed. Educators play a vital role in fostering emotional balance and well-being and promoting self-expression in the lives of their students. This presentation seeks to inspire and equip music educators with the tools necessary to meet the diverse emotional needs of students in the post-Covid era, increasing cognitive function and resilience. Handouts and electronic links will be provided.”
